Onyx and I were able to keep the Animated Armor at bay while the rest of the party ran up the stairs to help us. Marek dove into battle but the tight quarters must have thrown off his balance, he didn’t seem as accurate as I’ve seen him be. Eddie was able to put a fine place arrow into the lifeless armor and break it apart. Not something you can really train for.
While the party continued to search the house for a “monster,” we could definitely see that there is something more sinister at work here. Including a haunted broom and the spirit of the live mother of the still born child that appears in many of the family pictures, not the child of Elisabeth. Lester went into a closet, made a bunch of noise and came out to slam the door shut. With his back pressed against the door he told us not to go in there, there’s nothing to see.
Eddie found multiple ways into a small stair case leading to the attic. Marek and Lester discovered the room of the two children who were actually dead, as their bones laid in the room. They had been dead for quite some time. Onyx went to the window to see if the children were still in the street, but the mists had engulfed the house and nothing could be seen.
Upon moving a few of their toys two ghostly forms of the children appear. They were harmless and said they were locked in this room by their parents, and they starved to death. They still feared the monster in the basement. The girls help, Marek discovered the path to the basement while inspecting a replica doll house. We decided to make our way to the secret stair case, but not before it appeared that Marek’s disposition was that of a intolerant young child as he decided the charge forward moving as fast as he can. Zhu Li would also act strange as she became fearful of even leaving the attic. Eddie thought he saw the spirit of the young boy move into Zhu Li.
Rushing through some dark underground catacombs that emit a haunting chant Marek nearly lost his life to a spiked trap in one of the floors. The chanting leads to a room of dark powers as apparitions urged that “he is the ancient, he is the land.” Were they the victims or followers of the strange cult in the letter Eddie found. They change their chant to “One must die” when the Eddie inspected the alter. The chilling altar was set up so a victim would be hung and bled out over it.
Of course we were not going to sacrifice one of our own and the apparitions summoned a giant mound of refuse, a shambling mound. Zhu li became frozen in place and I had no choice but to defend her. She would barely move, as if she was seeing the monster that haunted the children from the eyes of a child. It was a short battle against this creature, but defeating it on the altar appeared satisfy the calls of the cult spirits.
Unfortunately this sacrifice also nearly brought the house down on us, and we narrowly escaped only to have the house disappear from existence, as if it was never there. Yet they still had a deed to a strange windmill.
