We escaped what I am not calling the Death House only to be standing in the most gloomy village imaginable. The only sounds we could here were that of a crying woman deep within the village. When we approached the home, of who we later leaned was Mad Mary, we were too fearful of what happened recently to bother leaning of the wailing’s source.
We were able to find a tavern open, the Blood of the Vine, where the bartender has very little to say and a trio of Vistani women only played a game of what they called “wolf”. Eddie being skillful as he is seemed to learn quickly and impress the women as he won a the first few rounds. We would meet Ismark Koylanovich the son of the burgomaster mentioned in the mysterious note we found on the dead body. His sister is Ireena Koylana, the woman assaulted by the vampire in the letter. He has asked us to help him escort his sister safely out of town after learning of his fathers note.
Ismark offered us a chance to rest at his manor and to meet his sister Ireena. He told us that Mad Mary has been howling for days, but no one has bothered to inspect why. Quite an odd thing to happen in a small village, almost like everyone must keep to themselves.
We would meet Ireena, the strikingly attractive woman terrorized by Strahd. He has already bitten her twice on previous occasions of which she has no memory. They believe that the third bite will be her last, and he will have taken her as his bride. Ismark expressed great concern and we should leave and take her to a local town to the west, Vallaki. Ireena demands we lay their late father to rest at the church on the northern side of the village. He had passed away from the stress of his daughter being hunted by the devil and his wolves.
After a short rest, we agreed to help transport the body to the church, and escort her to this village to the west. When we carried her father’s corpse in a make shift coffin tot the church we met Donavich, the local priest who apparently had his own problems. His son, Doru, had recently returned after being transformed in the vampire spawn of Strahd. He said, his son was convinced to partake on an assault of Castle Ravenloft by a strange mage who traveled here from another land. As a result many members of the town perished and Doru returned with blood lust. Our only option was break Donavich from his despair and destroy the undead being the Doru had become.
Killing Doru proved to be more difficult than we thought. None of us had any knowledge of what it takes to kill a vampire spawn. Creatures only spoke of in myth as far as we knew. Doru would escape into the mists as a dark presence seemed to rescue him, while we saw a pack of angry wolves that had been following us from the burgomaster’s mansion, now had us surrounded.
