We finally were blessed with a night to rest. I will say that was nearly the longest day of our lives so far. The Vistani are quite hospitable, regardless of Ismarks apparent distaste for their culture. We would immediately leave early in the morning. Once again the rain would start on our journey. It’s as if we never truly see the sun in this depressing land.
On the road to Vallaki we saw the Windmill in which we appear to have the deed for. The Vistani had told us to avoid this place if possible. As if to not get weirder in this place we would later find a hidden bag of human skin with the clothes of a possible werewolf, according to Lester. If we had any fear of wolves, that would somewhat be eased when we saw the heads of wolves welcoming us to Vallaki. We asked the guards that were stationed at the gate the way to St. Andral’s Church, where we came to take Ireena.
We would come to the curch of St. Andral, and find the local priest, Father Lucian Petrovich. He was comforting an old woman, named Willemina. Her son had been thown in the stocks by the town guards for speaking out against the local burgomaster.
We also met Milivoj and Yeska, the grounds keeper and altar boy. Lucian would tell us that the hallow ground of the church was at risk because someone had lost the bones of St. Andral. They must be the artifacts that protect this place, and gave it it’s name. Lucian believes that young Yeska would no more about their whereabouts, but has been interrogating him all day. He suggested we should return in the morning.
We decided to come here, the Blue Water Inn, a more lively inn than the last. We were graciously hosted by the Martikov’s, Danika, Urwin and their two boys, Brom and Bray. They had an interesting choice of delicacy, wolf. Two wolf hunters bring them their prey in exchange for wine and entertainment. In this land wolves must be the main source of protein.
We learned that the Martikov’s are running low on wine and that they have not heard from their recent delivery in a few days. Their family owns the local winery to the west call the Wizards of Wine. The two wolf hunters, Szoldar Szoldarovich and Yevgeni Krushkin, warned us about traveling off of the main roads and of pack of werewolves that may cause us great danger.
The Martikov’s also spoke of missing learning about children going missing from the Village of Barovia. At this Ismark said he must return and paid us a large amount of gold. He said we should buy horses and consider taking Ireena to the walled village of Krezk. One of the proficies was we would find a great sword with the power of the sun at the Abby of Saint Markovia. The Martikov’s allies think the children are being kept at a old windmill called the “Old Bonegrinder.” Is this our windmill?
After much discussion we would decide to speak with the young boy in the morning to find out if he knew more about the missing bones. This would allow us to leave Ireena in a safe place while we learn more about the missing children. She agreed to go with us to Krezk when we would travel that way.
3rd-day, 23rd Ches, 1489 — Thursday, October 11th (Barovia)
We started our day seeking more information about the missing bones of St. Andral. Yeska said he didn’t know how they went missing but had told Milivoj about them. With some of Eddie’s smooth words, and maybe Lester’s brooding looks, the young grounds keepers told us he needed money for himself and his sister to eat, and saw no harm in selling them to the local Coffin Maker.
Once again we were faced with a choice. We could travel to Krezk immediately to keep Ireena safe, backtrack to the windmill to find out more about the missing children, or visit the coffin make and return the artifacts. The artifacts were the closest to take care of now. Man I wish we went to the windmill now!
The coffin maker did not appear to be welcoming as he didn’t want us to interrupt his work as he kept telling us to “Go Away.” With Eddie’s help we broke in the back way to find a distressed coffin maker fearful and panicked. In the attempt to quickly locate the artifacts Marek stabled into a coffin storage room and ultimately found the coffin makers problem a nest of Vampire Spawn.
